Fertility Patient Stories
I had my tubes tied in 1997, but in 2005, my husband and I wanted to have a baby. My primary care doctor referred me to Dr. David Lee at OHSU.
Not knowing we were going to end up needing fertility treatment, I’m glad we made our home in Portland. OHSU is a great healthcare resource; the fertility clinic has helped us achieve our dream of becoming mothers.
Our case was one of “unexplained secondary infertility.” Neither my nurse-midwife nor the fertility clinic could point to anything that we needed to improve. It would have been easier if there had been something to treat.
I could get pregnant but couldn't stay pregnant. I started to feel “broken” and “too old” to have a baby. I was devastated and mad. It was then that we were referred to OHSU for fertility help.
In the end, our daughter, Brigette Heather, was born full-term and in perfect health. Seven years after our first steps, I was finally a mom. And somehow, holding my baby in my arms, made it all ok. The heartache was worth it.
Everyone at OHSU was so warm and sensitive—and funny. They always tried to bring levity into the situation, because it wasn’t always easy.
Additional fertility stories are coming soon. If you are an OHSU Fertility patient and would like to share your story, please let us know. We are honored to be a part of your journey.
