About me

Michelle LaChance has a special interest in normalizing birth, in nutrition and in optimizing care for women through perimenopause and menopause. She is also very interested in effective alternative treatments for common pregnancy discomforts. Michelle likes being an advocate for women. Empowering women to have a normal, satisfying birth experience and teaching student midwives are both gratifying parts of her job.

Originally from Burlington, Michelle also studied nursing in Vermont. She received her nurse-midwifery degree from OHSU and has spent many years practicing in the Portland community. Michelle feels lucky to both practice and teach her craft with such a committed group of midwives and providers. When she is not at work, she loves spending time outdoors hiking, skiing, cycling and walking with her dogs. She also enjoys playing piano and spending lots of time watching her teenage son play sports.

Pregnancy and childbirth philosophy:

"I believe that a good birth attendant has the knowledge and understanding of technology, along with the wisdom to not let it get in the way when it is not indicated. To allow nature to guide the way is a very valuable skill in this profession."

Insurance

Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.
