Stress Management

Symptoms of stress can include irritability, anxiety, fatigue, trouble sleeping, aches and pains or worsening of symptoms you already have. The OHSU Brain Institute offers stress management techniques through the OHSU Neurology Wellness Clinic. These include:

  • Breathing techniques
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Tai chi
  • Qi gong

These techniques are called mind-body therapies because they bring your mind and body together to relax and concentrate on your physical feelings, breath and other functions. Practicing breathing, meditation, or another technique can help you control where your attention goes, whether you are having symptoms or not. Research shows that these treatments can decrease stress and improve quality of life for people with chronic (long lasting) health conditions, including brain and nervous system disorders.
