OHSU Vice Provost Announces Retirement

Dr. Robert Vieira will be retiring and leaving his role at the University as Vice Provost effective of July 1, 2013.

Dr. Vieira began his tenure at the University in 2000 as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. He served as Interim Provost for Academic and Student Affairs from 2009 to 2010, and additionally assumed responsibility for Student Affairs and Multicultural Affairs during his tenure as Vice Provost. Among other accomplishments, Dr. Vieira's contributions to the Office of the Provost included his leadership in helping to develop the Center for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs (now the Office of Diversity and Inclusion), the Diversity Advisory Committee, Physical Access Committee and the Global Health Center. He has been a strong and effective advocate for students and faculty alike during his time at OHSU, and remains a highly respected member of the academic community in Oregon through his 37 years of service in the state.

In addition to his work at OHSU, Dr. Vieira has served as Executive Dean for the Semester at Sea Program affiliated with the University of Virginia, leading this "around the world" study abroad program five times.  He plans to sail again as Executive Dean with his wife, Abby, in fall of 2015.

In appreciation for his leadership and distinguished service, Dr. Vieira has been awarded the status of Vice Provost Emeritus.  Please join us in thanking him for his dedication to OHSU.
