Lynn Jansen

In 2010, Lynn A. Jansen, R.N., Ph.D. became the inaugural appointment to the Madeline Brill Nelson Chair in Ethics Education at the Center for Ethics in Health Care at Oregon Health and Science University. Dr. Jansen began her career as a Registered Nurse working in a variety of clinical contexts, including clinical oncology, pain management, and critical care. During her two decades of clinical work, Dr. Jansen continued her education, earning a doctorate in political theory at Columbia University (1997) and completing post-doctoral training in clinical medical ethics at the University of Chicago (2000). For the past eleven years, she has taught medical students and other health care professionals about the ethical issues challenging today's clinicians. She has gained wide recognition for her published contributions in clinical and research ethics. She also serves as an Associate Editor for Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics. Dr. Jansen came to the Center for Ethics in Health Care at Oregon Health & Science University from St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center in New York City where she was the Senior Medical Ethicist, and from New York Medical College where she was Research Associate Professor of Medicine and Executive Director and Chair of the John J. Conley Center for Ethics.
