Jeanne Whitehouse, BSN '43

December 23, 1919 - March 19, 2013 Age: 93

WHITEHOUSE, JEANNE MARION HAEHLEN, 93, of Louisville, passed on peacefully at The Altenheim on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. A native of Portland, OR, Jeanne completed her nursing education in 1943 at U of OR. She raised her family in Louisville, after settling here in 1947 with her husband Vern, whom she met when he was stationed for military duty in Oregon. She worked at the Jefferson County Health Department from 1946 to 1947 and then from 1966 until 1984. In retirement, Jeanne traveled and spent time with Vern, family, and friends, always ready for new adventures. She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), now in Prospect KY, where she loved to sing in the choir and strived to help other people. She was a life member of Oregon Health Sciences University School of Nursing Alumni and she was active in LGE Choral Club. Jeanne volunteered with U of L, Humana Hospital University Auxiliary and many church ministries. Always a peacemaker, Jeanne lived her life with grace, caring for others; she was known for her sweet disposition and loved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, G. Albert ""Pappy"" and Anna Schacht ""Nana"" Haehlen; brother, George (Brickie)Haehlen; husband, Vernon Whitehouse Sr.; nephew, Mark Haehlen; granddaughter, Clara Becker Overlock, and cousins in the Krause family. She is survived by her children, Sarah Becker (Earl) of Elizabeth, IN, Vernon Whitehouse, Jr. (Nancy) of Emerson, NJ, Sylvia Whitehouse of Strawberry Plains, TN, Daniel Whitehouse of Louisville; grandchildren Andrew and Katherine Whitehouse, Damon, Gabe, Martha, Tina and Belinda Becker; 13 great-grandchildren and many kissing cousins. Her life celebration will be noon Saturday, March 23, 2013 at First Christian Church, 7700 US 42, Prospect, KY, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until noon Saturday at her church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Christian Church, Music Ministries or Memorial Fund or to National MS Society.
