Jonathan Nelson

Jonathan Nelson, PhD Senior Research Associate (Gurley Lab Collaborator) in the Ellison Lab, 2018

Jonathan double majored at the University of Washington (Seattle) in Biochemistry and Biology in 2006, and a PhD in Molecular and Medical Genetics in 2013 from Oregon Health & Science University where he studied the regulation of soluble epoxide hydrolase activity, an enzyme whose activity is implicated as a risk factor for multiple cardiovascular diseases. He went on to become a postdoctoral fellow in The Knight Cardiovascular Institute and joined Dr. Ellison’s lab in 2016 after being awarded an American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship studying the effect of hypertension on endothelial cell transcription. Jonathan is interested in understanding how cardiovascular disease is exacerbated by damage to endothelial cells and developing new therapeutic strategies aimed at improving endothelial cell function.
