Brian K. McCarthy is a member of the full-time faculty in the Portland State University Graduate School of Business. He teaches marketing and managerial communication classes in the MBA and MIM programs, advises the school of business on its marketing strategy, and coaches MBA and MIM students on achieving school and career success. He also teaches graduate-level marketing and leadership classes at the University of Oregon, and has been awarded the Oregon Executive MBA Outstanding Instructor Award seven times.

Prior to teaching at Portland State, Brian was the general manager of a $120 million sales, marketing and consulting business unit at the Microsoft Corporation. He also held a number of other management positions at Microsoft, including Group Marketing Manager and National Channel Manager, and earned Top Corporate Contributor and Top Manager awards. Before joining Microsoft, Brian was a sales representative at IBM, where he was a proud member of the IBM 100% Club and earned a Frontrunner Achievement Award.

He holds a BA in history and an MBA in finance and marketing from the University of Washington. In 2011, he completed the Columbia University Executive Coaching Certification Program. He also holds certifications in the Hogan Personality Assessment, the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator, and the Polaris 360.
