About our programs

The OHSU Graduate Programs in Human Nutrition (GPHN) houses the longest-standing dietetic internship program west of the Mississippi River! The well-established master's program at OHSU has been providing exceptional graduate education since 2003. OHSU is the only academic medical center in the state of Oregon and includes an outstanding teaching hospital, specialty clinics, state of the art research centers, and health professional training programs that draw students, faculty, clinicians, and scientists from all over the world. As part of OHSU’s School of Medicine, our program faculty’s commitment is to foster curiosity, competence, confidence, and compassion in the next generation of nutrition professionals. As such, we provide students with a dynamic array of knowledge and experience to succeed in the fields of nutrition, dietetics, food justice and sustainability. Students join our program with a variety of backgrounds, diverse interests, and a passion to serve.

Preceptors of the Month

"I started my career as a dietitian with the WIC program in Oregon in 2008 and have loved working in the community setting – especially having the time to really get to know the families we serve and help them achieve their goals for improved health. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to start our local agency Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program and have enjoyed coordinating it since 2012. My role is a perfect mix of dietitian and lactation consultant, and it has been wonderful to share my passion for both with OHSU dietetic interns for the last 16 years. My favorite aspect of working with interns is helping them discover a “spark” for an area of dietetics practice they may have previously been unfamiliar with, and watching their self-confidence grow throughout their rotation." -Elizabeth Still, RD, LD, IBCLC

"I am a seasoned dietitian of ten years and a proud OHSU DI graduate (2013). I have primarily held clinical roles over the past ten years, and currently work full-time as an inpatient clinical dietitian at Legacy Emanuel, where I have been since 2016. I manage the cardiac, medicine, and post-stroke wards and serve a variety of patients (no two days are alike!). Over the past decade I've also worked with the student population at the University of Portland, and currently practice as an eating disorder dietitian in a private practice collective (Nutrition Therapy & Wellness Co.). I have been teaching interns for much of the past decade and enjoy helping them get their bearings within the inpatient hospital space. I'm interested in an ever-changing set of hobbies including, but not limited to, sewing, reading, barbell and weight training, resin and jesmonite pouring, animal rescue, and as much travel as I can afford!" -Gemma Sexton, RD, LD, CNSC
