School of Medicine welcomes Dr. Mejicano, new senior associate dean for education

mejicano-welcome-82912George Mejicano, M.D., M.S., the school's new senior associate dean for education has arrived on campus.

At the recent white coat ceremony, Dr. Mejicano led the students as they recited the modern Hippocratic Oath and greeted them at the reception that followed the ceremony.

In his role as senior associate dean for education, Dr. Mejicano is part of a new mission-integrated senior leadership team in the School of Medicine. This leadership team includes senior associate deans for education, research, the clinical practice and finance/administration. The organization of this senior team reflects the school's commitment to collaboration and partnerships across all missions and the recognition that we can best meet our missions when they are effectively integrated.

Dr. Mejicano received his medical degree from the University of Illinois in 1990, with post-graduate clinical training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Most recently, he was the associate dean for continuing professional development and the director of the Office of Continuing Professional Development (OCPD) in Medicine and Public Health at the University of Wisconsin. Under his leadership, the University of Wisconsin was recognized for its creation and leadership of groundbreaking initiatives that have set the standard for multi-institution collaboration in continuing medical education. 

Dr.  Mejicano has received numerous awards for leadership and teaching and has served in many national leadership positions. They include service on the Board of Directors of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Center for Infectious Diseases of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Mejicano was also a professor of medicine in the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and is an active clinician, consistently named by multiple surveys as among the top physicians nationwide.
