The successful OHSU School of Dentistry and Oregon Academy of General Dentistry (OAGD) alliance is set to continue when the dental school moves to its new facility this summer on South Waterfront. All academic and clinical operations of the OHSU School of Dentistry are slated to begin moving to the Skourtes Tower OHSU School of Dentistry (2730 S.W. Moody Avenue, Portland, Oregon, 97201-5042) on July 1, with limited patient care beginning July 7.

The continuing dental education department in the new facility is on the 12th floor.

“We are eager to share our new space with our members, course attendees, and study club participants,” said OAGD Executive Director Laura Seurynck, R.D.H., M.S. “We will have state-of-the-art equipment and operatories, from private to open concept. Our conference room has video streaming capabilities so we can share learning opportunities from operatory to operatory.

“The architecture is fabulous and the views are outstanding with a birds-eye view of the Cascades, downtown Portland, and the Willamette River with its new Tillikum Bridge,” she said. “The facility is transit-friendly, with the building right on the Tri-Met orange line and next to the Portland street car.”

The OHSU-OAGD alliance has revitalized continuing dental education.

“Our plan is to continue to provide the very best in continuing dental education,” said Phyllis Beemsterboer, M.S., Ed.D., OHSU School of Dentistry associate dean for academic affairs. “We are pleased that our alliance has enabled us to provide more robust continuing education opportunities and, it is our hope, that we can grow the program further in our new facility.

“The OAGD members are active and supportive, with 18 study clubs, and we have a newer staff that can make it all happen,” she said.

“We have some great programs lined up for the coming year.”
