Education and Resources

If you have questions about required research training through the CITI Program, such as Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR), Human Subject Research (HSR), or Good Clinical Practice (GCP), or the annual Conflict of Interest disclosure form please visit the New Human Researchers page. External Collaborators and OHSU affiliated non-employees (e.g.,  students, residents, and volunteers) that need to be listed as study staff in the eIRB system or intend to complete OHSU research training or CoI requirements have a different set of onboarding instructions.

The IRB offers online training for the OHSU research community. Departments can request training for their groups on particular topics, especially for the waived study process.

Registration in Compass is highly recommended for Lunch and Learn sessions. Registering in advance allows us to email participants the presentation materials and follow up on meeting discussions directly. Sessions will be cancelled if less than five people register. Those who register for a session that is cancelled will be notified via email.

Click HERE for the Lunch and Learn WebEx link.

Please contact irb@ohsu.edu if you have any questions about offered training, suggestions for future topics, or would like to request departmental training.

NOTE: Lunch and Learns are generally scheduled January through May and September through November.

Introduction to the IRB (Online Training)

The Introduction to the IRB courses (Overview and Getting Started) offer a brief history of institutional review boards (IRB), tips for submitting your human subjects research for IRB review and working with Non-OHSU collaborators.

You will also learn basic information about the review process for IRB approval at OHSU, including documents and information commonly required for study submissions. Details on the use of the eIRB system will also be provided, and generally covers initial submissions, Modifications, Continuing Reviews, and Reportable New Information (RNI) submissions. This introductory course is strongly recommended for those new to human subject research or research staff new to OHSU but may also be a helpful refresher for those who have questions about the eIRB system or the OHSU IRB process.

IRB Lunch and Learn sessions

The IRB Lunch and Learn series contains sessions on varying topics every 4th Thursday of the month. Topics commonly include: Reportable New Information (RNIs); Informed Consent; Repositories; eIRB system changes and upgrades; Q&A sessions with IRB Specialists; or IRB news and updates, such as with the Revised Common Rule or the Waived Study Process. These sessions are strongly recommended for all PIs and study staff involved in human subject research. Please register in Compass.
