Exercising Together© Trial Now Online

cancer survivorship logos

Exercising Together© is expanding into five Oregon counties to explore the reach of online exercise delivery.

If you live with your spouse or partner in Jefferson, Wheeler, Lake, Malheur, or Benton County, we have a unique opportunity for you to participate in Exercising Together©.

We have received extra funding from the National Cancer Institute to learn how we can deliver exercise to parts of Oregon where cancer survivors have limited access to supervised exercise programs. If you live in Jefferson, Wheeler, Lake, Malheur, or Benton County, we would love to talk to you.

With this expanded funding, we hope to learn how to make exercise programs available to all cancer survivors, regardless of where they live.

An exercise opportunity for you and your spouse or partner after cancer

By joining Exercising Together©, you will be invited to be a part of one of three online exercise groups:

  • Partnered exercise classes – Couples strength train with each other in supervised, group exercise classes.
  • Separate survivor and partner exercise classes – Each partner strength trains separately in supervised, group exercise classes.
  • Exercise video – Each partner strength trains on their own. Survivors and partners receive resistance training bands, a strength training program DVD, and monthly phone calls from an exercise trainer.

Participants will be asked to exercise at home 2 times a week for 6 months.  Times for group classes vary.  Exercise programs are individually designed to match the exercise abilities of both active and inactive couples. Home exercise equipment will be provided.

Complete physical function tests and health surveys 4 times over 12 months. All testing is completed online using video conferencing. Study staff will assist you with video conferencing support, and internet-enabled devices may be available.
