Erik Brown, M.D., Ph.D.

Erik Brown graduated from Wayne State University's MD/PhD combined degree program, completing PhD work with a major in translational neuroscience, a minor in biomedical engineering, and a dissertation focusing a language structure and function using modalities of cortical stimulation, DTI, fMRI, and, primarily, electrocorticography (ECoG). Significant awards during medical school training were First Place selection during Data Blitz among medical students, residents, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows at the 2011 Workshop on HFOs in Cognition and Epilepsy at the Montreal Neurological Institute, and a 2012 Asselin Award for first author publication among medical students, residents, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Wayne State University. He had previously completed his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan.

His personal interests included foreign travel, guitar, camping, surfing, and ice hockey.

Alessandra Mantovani

Alessandra Mantovani, M.D.

Alessandra Mantovani, M.D., joined the program in 2018 from Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She graduated cum laude from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, where she also completed residency in Neurological Surgery. During her residency she spent some time at the University of Washington, Seattle, where she was hired as a fellow in Skull Base and Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery after graduation. She then went on to complete fellowships in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at the University of Florida, Gainesville, and at Stanford University, and a fellowship in pediatric Cpcerebrovascular disease at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Her main research interests include brain-computer interface and cerebrovascular disease.

She enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, listening to music, and playing and watching team sports with friends.
