The COVID19 pandemic catalyzed a rapid pivot to digitalization throughout society, including healthcare. Even in subsequent phases of the pandemic, it is likely that this will continue. This trend has caused immediate worsening of inequities but in this revolutionary environment there is an opportunity to create new systems of care that are inherently more equitable while also retrofitting against racism. In this presentation, major trends in digital health will be described with an attention to the exciting ways this can improve healthcare as well as the potential for worsening of the digital divide. Design Justice, Human Centered Design and a CCO funded pilot program, Community Organization Led Equity by Design (CO-LED) will be introduced as frameworks to chart a path towards justice.

Learning Objectives:

1) Describe major trends in digital health and how healthcare teams could enhance care by adopting new tools.

2) Define the digital divide and the differentiate between equity, justice, retrofitting against racism and co-creation/co-design.

3) Describe how human-centered approaches to design can be utilized in healthcare to build better systems of care.
