We have a highly productive collaboration with Welch Allyn where engineers and clinicians are working to solve some important clinical problems and develop new medical devices. Two different projects have obtained outside grant funding to perform clinical trials and move forward the development to validate/de-risk our technology. One device has already resulted in the filing of a non-provisional patent.
We are working with Hill-Rom regarding projects related to innovative solutions in patient monitoring to improve early detection, patient safety and improve outcomes. After hosting engineering rounds in our emergency department, further projects are in discussions.
We have an innovative collaboration with GE digital to improve ED and hospital patient throughput, improving patient outcomes and patient experience.
We are working to implement and identify areas of interest for clinical use of the 1st FDA approved rectal catheter for drug delivery and alternative hydration strategies on the market. We are in the process of securing federal grant funding to further the clinical utility of this device.

Our clinical research program has successfully implemented and enrolled Emergency Department patients of all ages into a broad range studies from gastroenteritis to renal disease to pulmonary embolism.
This novel and highly successful program pairs engineers with experienced Emergency Medicine faculty physicians in an immersive clinical experience in the ED. Engineers develop a deep understanding of patient care processes, equipment, and electronic health record use. In addition, engineers see real patient encounters and witness unmet need first hand.
