Dr. Sun awarded NIH R01 grant funding

Benjamin Sun, M.D., M.P.P., has been awarded a four year, $3.1 million NIH grant (R01HL134647-01A1) to identify best clinical practices in the emergency department evaluation of chest pain.

Chest pain is the most common reason for short stay admissions in the United States and accounts for over $3 billion of health care costs annually. However, there is no evidence that the current approach improves patient outcomes. This investigation will clarify the value of non-invasive cardiac testing and hospital admission. The study team includes collaborators at OHSU, Kaiser Permanente - Southern California, University of California - San Francisco, and the University of Sheffield.
