Dr. Newgard awarded NIH R24 grant funding

Craig Newgard, M.D., M.P.H., was awarded a 5-year R24 grant of $2.8 million from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development entitled "The Value of Pediatric Readiness in the Emergency Care of Injured Children."

This project will collect a cohort of injured children presenting to all emergency departments in 12 states over 6 years to evaluate the "pediatric readiness" (ability to care for seriously injured and critically ill children) of hospitals, including association with health outcomes, quality metrics and costs. This evaluation will also use decision analysis to assess the value (balance of outcomes, quality and costs) of pediatric readiness at the hospital level.
