IV placement is a very common procedure in the emergency department and healthcare system as a whole. In a large number of cases this can be a challenging procedure across all age ranges resulting in multiple attempts, pain and anxiety for patients. Dr. Hansen's concept is a novel technology to assist providers in placement of IVs under ultrasound guidance. This simple device can be applied quickly for low cost. Pilot studies showed that it resulted in improved IV access by nurses. The grant will assist prototype development and commercialization efforts.
