6th Annual Symposium

Dr. Selva Baltan was the featured keynote speaker at the 6th Annual Symposium on Aging Research at UTHealth Texas on October 11th. This was a joint event organized by the UTHealth Houston Consortium on Aging, the MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Brown Foundation Institute, and the Bovay Foundation. The Consortium on Aging is a university-wide collaborative effort focusing on aging-related interdisciplinary care, education, research, and community outreach. The Bovay Foundation generously supports the Consortium on Aging, as well as emerging scientists in medical research. Dr. Baltan’s research focuses on mechanisms of white matter injury, aiming to develop stroke therapeutics that restore function after injury and across age groups.

Congratulations to Dr. Dayle Hodge who has been awarded the Fall 2022 FAER Research Fellowship Grant for his proposal, "Aligned Collagen Nanofibrillar Scaffolds and Hypoxia Synergistically Drive Endothelial-Mesenchymal Transition." The project focuses on the reperfusion of ischemic tissue in peripheral vascular disease. The objective is to understand how hypoxia and biomaterial scaffolds work together to modulate endothelial cell molecular pathways involved in vascular regeneration.

Congratulations to Drs. Kasia Davis, Nabil Alkayed, Wenri Zhang and team for their new publication, Role of endothelial STAT3 in cerebrovascular function and protection from ischemic brain injury, in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.

Congratulations to Dr. Meredith Kato, Julie Soelberg and team for their publication, Prevalence of COVID-19 and Risk Factors for Infection Among Pediatric Anesthesia Patients, in Anesthesia & Analgesia.
