About me

Dr. Nicholas Welter is dual board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine. Dr. Welter enjoys caring for patients of all ages with a particular interest in athletes - whether professionals or weekend warriors. He believes exercise and wellness are the best medicines available and has specialized training in diagnostic and procedural ultrasound.

Dr. Welter grew up in the greater Seattle area before obtaining a degree in biochemistry at Santa Clara University. He returned to Seattle and attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine. After moving to Portland, Dr. Welter completed his residency at Providence Milwaukie followed by a fellowship in Sports Medicine at OHSU. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Welter has provided medical coverage for the Kona Ironman Triathlon, Portland Marathon, MMA, and USA Boxing to name a few. He also has experience in Team Coverage for both Collegiate and High School Athletes and is currently affiliated with George Fox University.

Beyond and sports, Dr. Welter prefers spending time with his wife and dog - backpacking, fishing, kayaking and anything else outdoors in the majestic Pacific Northwest. He appreciates eclectic music, fine woodworking, and a well-pitched hammock.

Insurance

Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.
