Dr. Recht, a pediatric hematologist, serves as the director of the Hemophilia Center at OHSU.  In addition to caring for individuals of all ages with hemophilia and other bleeding and clotting disorders, the Hemophilia Center has specialized clinics for adolescent women and women with bleeding and clotting disorders as well as for children who have sustained a stroke.  In addition, Dr. Recht is the director of the Mountain States Hemophilia Network, the federally-suppported collaboration of Hemophilia Treatment Centers in the states of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Dr. Recht's primary clinical focus is the treatment of children and adolescents affected by non-malignant blood conditions, particularly bleeding and clotting disorders. As a member of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, he contributes to the care of children with blood disorders at Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

Dr. Recht has actively participated in over 70 clinical research trials testing new treatments for children with bleeding and clotting disorders, including being a leader in research involving gene therapy for hemophilia. In addition, he is currently engaged in research studying the psychological and educational impact of chronic illness in childhood.

After growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dr. Recht received his B.S. in psychology, his Ph.D. in human cancer biology, and his M.D., all at the University of Wisconsin. He completed his residency and fellowship training at Yale University School of Medicine.  In his free time, Dr. Recht enjoys spending time with his wife, two young adult daughters, and three dogs.  He is an avid skier.  During the few months when snow doesn't cover Mt. Hood, he can be found on the Oregon shore.

Dr. Recht is not only my favorite, but he is one of a kind and has changed my life. I can hardly wait to see him on appointment days. I know he will ask hard questions and also help me celebrate things that are happening with my health. He listens to m,e he cares about what's happening in my family, and this last time I learned he is moving to a different part of Dornbecker, and I'm very happy for him, but I'm sad for me.
