About me

Dr. Lori Cardwell joined the division of GI and General Surgery at OHSU in 2017. She graduated with honors from Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine and was the recipient of the most prestigious Edward S. Hayes Gold-Headed Cane Award. She also completed her surgical residency at OHSU and, upon graduation, was recipient of the Karen and Clifford Deveney Award for Outstanding Resident. Dr. Cardwell splits her time at OHSU and Tuality Healthcare, which allows her a broader scope of surgical practice. Her collaboration between the two hospitals has improved efficiency and acuity-appropriate transfers between institutions.  Her primary area of focus is clinical care, but, as evidenced by her numerous awards in teaching, leadership, and mentorship during her residency, she also looks forward to opportunities to develop her skills as an educator. As a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a distinguished Navy veteran she continues the theme of service through patient care and through her contributions to the medical profession. She is a Portland native and loves the people and landscape of the Pacific Northwest. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, camping, traveling, and gardening.

Insurance

Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.
