Dr. Sprunger has focused his medical career on children and families. After a pediatric internship, he spent two years in Bogotá, Colombia delivering babies in a small clinic. That was followed by completion of pediatric residency and a fellowship in early childhood development. After five years on the pediatric faculty at the University of Arizona College of medicine, he headed for Oregon to pursue training in psychiatry- prompted by an ongoing fascination with behavioral and developmental problems faced by children and their families. His career in psychiatry included several years at OHSU working with the outpatient clinic and the pediatric consultation-liaison service. He retired after fifteen years with Kaiser Permanente. He was lured out of that life of ease with an offer to consult with the new OPAL-K program.
