Laurie Yablon is great, we first started working with Laurie Yablon back ... oh, I don't know. It's just the mere is because my daughter's been having medical issues since she was 5 and every time we've had any interaction with Laurie Yablon ... she's just incredibly attentive and empathetic and thorough and she's wonderful.

I was impressed with that fact that this provider was able to squeeze us in on the same day I sent a mychart message. But when we got there I was not overly impressed and I left feeling defeated and sad. Both nurse practitioners didn’t seem to know much about kids with special needs and told me my son needed to stop scratching at his incision. I told them that is his base line behavior and they told me I had to make it stop. They also told me I needed to find a way to make his head stay in an upright position and not drool on his incision - like he was trying to do this. Again I told them this is his base line. I understand that both of these actions he is doing are not good, but that was why we were there. I was hoping for someone to help us. We have never been in this situation before and don’t know what to do. Instead of help, I feel like they looked at my son as a question; almost like they had never seen a child with such special needs. They even joked, while I cried, about finding a way to prevent him from dropping his head down and that was how they would make their millions. They also told me to put a brace on my sons arm to keep him from scratching and wear the brace for all day...like24 hours if needed. I told them I would brace his arm but it’s not fair to him to brace it all day, and if I left it on him for too long he works scream. They didn’t seem to think beyond their words. They didn’t really see, or hear the impact of what they were saying. I left feeling defeated and cried most of the way home. We see a lot of dr’s and nurses and have only had a few that didn’t listen. I will do my best to not see these nurse practitioners again.

Dr. Laurie was lovely, from start to finish with my son, [Name] while he was in the hospital. She sought out to see completion with his health full and well. I would like to say that she took a full interest in our family wellness along that journey, which was quite lengthy. So I would say... and overall she was a fantastic provider. I would highly recommend her anytime. I appreciate her bedside banner. I appreciate her empathy. I appreciate her knowledge and her skills and what she does. So the [Name]s look forward to seeing her again, but hopefully on better conditions. Thank you so much.

Laurie Yablon is one of the sweetest NPs I have brought my son to. I really appreciate her understanding and kindness when it comes to my anxiety about my son's condition. Sometimes it's easy to brush the parent off as "crazy" but sometimes we just need some extra hand holding to know it's ok.

This provider was not as warm and friendly as most at OHSU. We are usually met with a warm friendly smile, instead it as a questioning distance and judgemental. Just not the norm for what we are used to from providers at Doernbecher/OHSU. (But everyone has bad days so we will just pass this off as one of those)
