About me

Dr. Cheng has provided psychiatric services in Oregon since 1990 after completing his postdoctoral fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Yale University Child Study Center. His major clinical interests include ADHD and treatment of immigrant youth from around the world.

Dr. Cheng is an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at OHSU. He has a longstanding interest in psychiatric education. In 2010, Dr. Cheng and his co-editor Kathleen Myers had the second edition of their textbook, “Child and Adolescent Psychiatry: The Essentials” published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins. The target audience for this textbook includes: pediatricians, family practitioners, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, as well as medical students, residents, and child psychiatry fellows.

Dr. Cheng is the chief medical officer at Trillium Family Services (TFS), Oregon’s largest provider of child and adolescent inpatient treatment. He has extensive experience providing clinical leadership for TFS treatment teams taking care of Oregon’s most mentally ill youth. In 2010 he joined OHSU’s Child Division to develop services in their outpatient clinic and the Oregon Psychiatric Access Line about Kids (OPAL-K). The OPAL-K project mission is to provide Oregonian pediatricians and family practitioners psychiatric consultation so their patients can have their mental health needs optimally met in primary care settings.
