Biography

Dr. Kayvan Roayaie earned his baccalaureate degree in biochemistry at Rutgers University in 1991. He then pursued graduate studies as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute predoctoral fellow in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of California, San Francisco. He earned his doctorate in 1996, focusing on the molecular biology and genetics of signal transduction in sensory neurons. Dr. Roayaie attended medical school at UCSF as well, and obtained his medical degree in 2000. He remained at UCSF where he completed a residency in general surgery in 2006. During his residency, he co-founded the UCSF Surgery Global Health Program and participated in the teaching of medical students, earning the Class of 2007 Teaching Award. Dr. Roayaie was a clinical transplant fellow at UCSF and completed his fellowship training with the Division of Transplantation in 2008. 

He has worked with the California Transplant Donor Network and engaged in clinical research related to transplantation. Dr. Roayaie joined the Department of Surgery faculty at Oregon Health & Science University in October 2010, and is currently assistant professor of surgery in the Department of Abdominal Organ Transplantation.
