Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.

Biography

"My philosophy is to meet women where they are in their life journey and to support their inherent strengths in achieving the best health care experience possible."

My path to midwifery started at my father’s side in Appalachia Ohio where his general medical practice included home births. My work as a nurse and midwife has focused on public health, pregnant and parenting families, out-of-hospital births, including those at home and birth centers, and hospital-based midwifery.  I was instrumental in starting the first hospital waterbirth practice in Madison, WI.

I moved to Portland in 1985, where I completed my nurse and midwifery education and raised two children, both birthed at home with midwives. I love teaching new midwives and am honored to be a part of OHSU’s faculty practice after two stints in Madison, Wisconsin as midwife and faculty at the University of Madison School of Nursing.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking/baking, fiber arts, watercolor painting and hanging out with my 8 chickens. I am delighted to be living in the Pacific Northwest with my daughter and 4 year old granddaughter.  As often as I can, I travel to British Columbia to visit my son and his two daughters.
