Although a native of West Michigan, Dr. Muench has worked at the OHSU Richmond Clinic since its opening in 1995. While the Richmond neighborhood has changed significantly since that time, he has been honored to continue serving many of those who established care at Richmond in the 90’s and hopes to carry these, and new, relationships forward well into the new millennia.
He completed a National Research Service Award fellowship in 2001, receiving a Masters in public health degree focusing on diabetes screening, and continues to study systems processes for screening in primary care. Currently an associate professor at OHSU, he serves as the director of behavioral medicine for the Department of Family Medicine, director of the SBIRT Oregon Primary Care Residency Initiative (focusing on alcohol and drug screening), and as the OHSU representative to the clinical oversight group at OCHIN, an electronic health record service shared collaboratively with other safety-net clinics.
Dr. Muench studied in the great books reading program at the University of Notre Dame and still enjoys reading anything from classical literature to pulp fiction.

I've been seeing Dr. Munch since 1996 or so. He's always been great dealing with my few health problems...including this most recent visit.

We have know Dr. Muench for several years. He has always listened to us, offers ways to approach our health problems and lets us know which ways might not be the most effective and why. I appreciate his knowledge and openness.

He was helpful and knowledgeable, and I felt we had a useful conversation where he listened to me and shared information I needed.

Oh, he was nice. He was kind and he was concerned and he helped me. I have infections on my finger and he gave me ointment that's helping. He was a nice, kind person.

Dr. Muench is very helpful, very kind caring and a good guy. I've been seeing him for 5 to 7 years now and he's by far the best doctor I've ever had. He truly cares about my health and well being and everything. I would recommend him to anyone that's looking for a doctor.

He was absolutely unhelpful and unsympathetic to anything that might have been going on with me. Perhaps he was uncomfortable with female reproductive health issues, or perhaps he had had a long day. In any case, I had some troubling concerns and he did not address any of them, or even ask questions in order to understand. I left feeling ashamed and even more worried that I would not receive the care I needed. He did absolutely nothing to address or assess any of my concerns, which was shocking (offensive, even), as every other experience I've had at OHSU facilities has been nothing less than stellar.

Dr Munch has been my primary care provider for about 20 years. He's been excellent. On this particular visit on 29 Nov he switched me from a medication that was giving me a problem to an alternative. He followed up by asking if I had any other medical issues.

Provider disregarded my concerns and seemed incompetent noting a decade old well healed body piercing scar as an ulcer while actively ignoring my telling him that it was a piercing scar. I felt that this appointment was less than satisfactory and made another appointment with a different provider.
