I have a passion for delivering quality primary care to all people. Out of this passion, and in my early career as a primary care physician, it became evident to me that many individuals and groups did not benefit from equal access to full spectrum and high quality primary care. I therefore have obtained public health and research training in order to better study the access to primary care by Latino populations (especially those utilizing community health centers for care). To do this work, I along with a fantastic team here at OHSU Family Medicine and at OCHIN, Inc, have utilized electronic health records to better understand inquities in care delivery and utilization. We are working on "BACKGROUND: Bettering Asthma care in kids- Geographic Determinants to Understand Disparities" which looks at asthma care deliveried in primary care between non-Hispanic white children and Latino children. We are also working on ECHANGE: a evaluation of alternative ways to pay for primary care in community health centers. Our team is committed to using new methods to better understand nuanced health disparities in racial/ethnic minorities, and to give providers and policy makers better data to improve the health of all of us.
