About me

Asher specializes in palliative care, a specialty that focuses on improving the quality of life through symptom management and advance care planning for people living with serious illness.

Asher earned his M.S.N. from Vanderbilt University where he received specialized training in palliative care. After completing graduate school, Asher served people living with serious illnesses in primary care clinics, LGBTQ health clinics, substance abuse treatment facilities, research programs, and community-based hospice and palliative care programs.

Asher began serving people facing terminal or life-limiting illness over 20 years ago and has been part of end-of-life care in a variety of roles. Asher holds national certification as an advanced hospice and palliative care nurse (ACHPN). Asher’s passion for palliative care also shines when he has been part of educating hospice program staff, nursing students, and medical students. Asher also has a special interest in mindfulness practices in palliative care and in providing LGBTQ-inclusive hospice and palliative care.

A long-time meditator, Asher’s meditation practice helps to keep him grounded. In addition, Asher enjoys reading, gardening, traveling, bike commuting, learning new languages, and spending time with his husband and their two French bulldogs, Emmett and Sati.
