  • Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, School of Medicine
  • Ernest C. Swigert Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine

Biography

Dr. Kaul is the previous Head of cardiovascular division at OHSU and the founding director of the Knight Cardiovascular Institute. He is the Past-president of the American Society of Echocardiography. He specializes in coronary artery disease and imaging of the heart, especially echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Kaul has spent many years caring for patients, teaching and mentoring other cardiologists and doing research. His work has been published in many medical and scientific journals, and he has served as an editor and reviewer for other heart researchers’ projects and grants. He was awarded the outstanding Investigator award of the American Federation of Clinical Research, the Distinguished Scientist Award of the American College of Cardiology and the James B. Herrick Award of the American Heart Association.

Today, Dr. Kaul spends most of his time in research. He has co-founded two companies: Vasocardea and Orcorazon. Vasocardea is developing drugs to treat diseases that affect small blood vessels in the heart. Orcorazon is developing a total artificial heart.
