Biography

Jennifer Smith, M.S.W., L.C.S.W. works inpatient for the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute as the hematologic malignancy and bone marrow transplant Social Worker.

Jennifer “Jen” Smith started at OHSU as an MSW intern in 2008 and graduated from Portland State University with her master’s degree in Social Work in 2009. After graduate school, Jen was employed at a mental health and chemical dependency hospital before being hired at OHSU in 2010 as a Social Worker in the emergency department. In 2013 Jen earned her LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker).

In early 2015, Jen began working as the Social Worker on the inpatient BMT/hematologic malignancy service under the Knight Cancer Patient and Family Support Service department.

In her current work, Jen works with patients who are admitted to the Hematologic Malignancy and BMT service who are at all stages of their cancer journey. Jen meets with patients who are newly diagnosed with hematologic malignancies, with those who request counseling and support while admitted to the BMT service, with patients and caregivers preparing for, or currently undergoing, bone marrow transplant, with patients in need of resources, and to provide various other types of on-going support to patients in need.
