Ben Sanders is a general pediatrician living in Portland, Oregon. Prior to coming to Oregon, Dr. Sanders was on the Drexel College of Medicine faculty as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, at St. Christophers Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. In addition to teaching pediatric primary care to residents and caring for Children with Special Healthcare Needs, he played a major role in implementation of outpatient Electronic Health Records from paper records over this time.

He started at OSHU as a National Library of Medicine Postdoctoral Research Fellow in 2018. He continues to teach pediatric primary care to residents and medical students at Doernbecher Childrens Hospital. He is most interested in improving pediatric primary care quality using informatics, especially surveillance, screening, referral, evaluation, and treatment of developmental delays including Autism Spectrum Disorders. His thesis involves groundwork for improving the Early Intervention referral process. He is using informatics approaches to do this, such as mapping data ontologies between medical and early childhood education environments. His vision is that one day a child's information about her health, development, and education are integrated securely together, so that caregivers and professionals in medical and early childhood education settings can easily store and access the information they need to help every child reach their full potential.
