Biography

I came to OHSU to lead and learn about using a professional practice model to advance generalist nursing practice across the patient continuum.  I have had the opportunity to influence the implementation of the Transition to Practice program, the reduction of Healthcare Associated Infections, the standard of care delivered to patients with cognitive and behavioral challenges, the advancement of a culture of safety, and re-framing the electronic health record as the vehicle for interdisciplinary knowledge transfer.  At the foundation of these initiatives are the principles of professional practice.  I had the priviledge to be mentored by Maria O'Rourke and become a certified Role Based Coach.  Through her, I discovered  professional practice is a practical and meaninful guide for my development as a nurse and a leader.  And I discovered that few others have this same appreciation for this theory and so I have something unique to contribute.

I was priviledged to have a second impactful coach share yet another practical and meaningful framework with me.  Ernie Meadows developed a person-centered approach to relating successfully at work.  The four skills that comprise this competency are foundational to my ability to engage with diverse ideas and find gifts in conflict.  My teaching of relationship competency is equal parts gratitude and passion.

I am blessed to have a strong network of family and friends who enjoy hiking, reading, eating healthy, sharing experiences and debating different perspectives with me.
