Antwon Chavis, M.D.

  • Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics, School of Medicine

Biography

Dr. Chavis is a general pediatrician who cares for children from birth through adolescence. From the time he was little, Dr. Chavis’ parents taught him (without knowing – like all parents do!) how to care for both special needs and typically developing children throughout the various stages of childhood.

Like many parents raising children with different capabilities, his parents instilled in him the importance of patience, the value of every accomplishment, and bringing out the best in others. From helping teens learn to advocate for their own health and well-being to reassuring new parents they’re doing everything right, he seizes every opportunity to inspire good health by giving people confidence in their own abilities. He enjoys working with kids because it allows for forming special relationships with families, while having a positive effect on the health and safety of the community.

Dr. Chavis is a foster parent and enjoys spending time with his family. A music aficionado, Dr. Chavis is rarely seen without his headphones and might (on occasion) ignore his own advice for maximum headphone volume. He also enjoys hip-hop dance, travel and negotiating with his obese cats who hate their new diets.
