Biography

Formation of a blood clot involves tightly regulated activity of blood platelets and coagulation factors. Signaling networks within platelets and the coagulation cascade orchestrate the hemostatic response to injury, while also maintain homeostasis in quiescent conditions. Dysregulation of platelets and coagulation activity have been shown to play a central role in inflammation, thrombosis, and cancer. However, there remains a need for better therapeutics that prevent thrombosis and inflammatory processes yet also maintain hemostasis, as there is still an inherent bleeding risk associated with current antithrombotic therapeutics. My research investigates the signaling mechanisms of platelets and coagulation, with an emphasis on potential therapeutic targets for atherosclerosis, thrombosis and other cardiovascular diseases.
