A Portland resident checks his car after it being turned over by local earthquake

PORTLAND, OR -- Today, people got up to go to work and found out their morning and their cars were turned upside down. A moderate earthquake shook the ground in an unusual way that flipped cars over during the night. Witnesses say that while they felt the earthquake, no one heard their cars rolling over onto their tops.

People awoke around 11:37 p.m. when the earthquake shook Portland, but none of them expected to see their cars overturned. They checked their houses to make sure nothing happened, and after assuring themselves the earthquake was minor, they went right back to bed. However, they had their own aftershock the next morning when they went outside to drive to work.

One man left his car in a nearby lot while visiting with friends. He ended up staying the night there. When he came back to the lot the next morning, he found his white Subaru Outback weighing a little over 1.8 tons flipped completely over in the neighboring parking space from where he parked the previous night.

Experts say the earthquake was a mere 4.1 on the Richter scale, which according to UPSeis, is very light but can cause minor damage.
