Lori Tam, M.D., medical director and cardiologist with Providence Heart Institute, reviews the physiologic changes of pregnancy and effects on the heart. Pregnancy-related cardiac conditions, including current management recommendations for spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) and peripartum cardiomyopathy, are discussed. Conditions during pregnancy, which can impact future cardiovascular health, are identified.
