Abstract

This talk will focus on three specific topics, with the goal to demonstrate that new synthetic approaches can also inspire the discovery of new therapeutics. In particular, we have been interested in generating a series of novel pro- and anti-ferroptotic cell death agents that modulate the oxidation of the mitochondria-specific lipid cardiolipin. Furthermore, we have used 3D-printed cells for an in-flow photooxygenation in the preparation of inhibitors of protein phosphatase PTP4A3. Finally, protein homeostasis is a critical process in stress, disease and aging, and dysregulation can affect cancer, neurodegeneration and inflammatory diseases. For this purpose, we have been developing modulators of the heat-shock protein Hsp70 and the AAA ATPase p97.
