Research

Congratulations to Dr. Lisa Corbett, who was recently recruited to OHSU to Direct Obstetric Anesthesiology, for being named chair of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) subcommittee on International Outreach.  Dr. Corbett has a long history of working with Kybele, an international non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare for childbirth in low and middle income countries.  This appointment is recognition of Dr. Corbett’s international reputation in this area. Dr. Corbett was also recently named to the Program Committee for the inaugural Fetal Surgery program in Denver, Colorado. Congratulations to Dr. Corbett for advancing maternal care throughout the world!

Dr. Ursula Sandau, a Senior Research Associate in Dr. Julie Saugstad’s laboratory, was invited to serve on the International Organizing Committee for the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles annual meeting that will be held in Seattle, Washington in May 2023.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Brandon Togioka for two recent publications in obstetric anesthesiology. The first manuscript entitled, Pharmacokinetics and tolerability of intraperitoneal chloroprocaine after fetal extraction in women undergoing cesarean delivery, will be published in Anesthesia & Analgesia.  It follows previous investigations led by Dr. Togioka assessing the use of intraperitoneal chloroprocaine during cesarean delivery to provide intraoperative anesthesia. Dr. Togioka was the first to publish this technique. The second manuscript entitled, Limited English proficiency in the labor and delivery unit, was published in Current Opinion in Anesthesiology.  The manuscript provides the first review of the impact of limited English proficiency on obstetric anesthesia care. Congratulations to Dr. Togioka and his team for their commitment to reducing healthcare disparities and improving maternal health!
