Congratulations on retirement, Dr. Shangraw!

Dr. Bob Shangraw has hung up the stethoscope.  While he will remain active in APOM through research and mentorship, he provided his last day of clinical service last week.  He joined our department in 1990 and has made a myriad of outstanding contributions to APOM and the anesthesia community at large.  In the department, he served twice as Director of Adult Inpatient Anesthesia, served on the liver transplant team, and led our department for whichever call came.  For the institution, he chaired the promotion and tenure committee. Nationally, he has led at the NIH and Association of University Anesthesiologists.  He continues to maintain his research passion in glycemic control and brain injury.  When Covid appropriate, we aim to more formally celebrate his contributions.  For now, please join me in thanking Dr. Shangraw for his years of service and wish him an enjoyable retirement from clinical care.

Congratulations Dr. Leila Zuo for being selected to present her Problem Based Learning Discussion twice at ASA. This PBLD discusses the management of complications associated with bolusing a labor epidural to achieve surgical anesthesia.  The PBLD was very well-attended and Dr. Zuo received multiple comments for her insightful and evidence-based guided learning discussion.
