Grand Rounds details

Effective interventions can improve colorectal cancer screening, yet disparities persist for rural, Medicaid, and ethnically diverse patients. Work completed by Dr. Davis over the past six years in partnership with the Oregon Rural Practice-based Research Network (ORPRN), Community Health Advocacy and Research Alliance (CHARA), and regional and national partners identified mailed fecal immunochemical tests (FIT) and patient navigation as a cost effective strategy to improve colorectal cancer screening and follow-up after abnormal FIT. This talk will highlight community-engaged research leading up to the development and funding for a large-scale pragmatic trial (SMARTER CRC, MPI: Melinda Davis, ORPRN; Gloria Coronado, KP Center for Health Research) to support rural clinics in delivering colorectal cancer screening outreach programs as part of National Cancer Institute’s ACCSIS Moonshot Initiative.
