About the talk

In this latest installment of the Virtual Brain TLC Lecture Series, Dr. Zach Beattie will discuss the technology platform being developed at the Oregon Center for Aging & Technology (ORCATECH) for use in aging and Alzheimer’s disease research.  He will also present examples of some of the research being done that utilizes the ORCATECH platform.

He will specifically focus on the Digital Technology Core (DTC) of the NIA-Layton Aging & Alzheimer’s Disease Center and the Oregon Roybal Center for Care Support Translational Research Advantaged by integrating Technology (ORCASTRAIT).  The DTC maintains a dementia-focused Life Laboratory, consisting of a group of research volunteers with and without dementia that have the ORCATECH platform in their homes, and makes the data available for research.

ORCASTRAIT is an initiative that is examining new ways to improve the health and welfare of caregivers who work with individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. ORCASTRAIT sponsors two pilot studies each year that are focused on helping caregivers.  Dr. Beattie will introduce the work being done by the two currently funded ORCASTRAIT pilots.
