“We Were Here,” for World AIDS Day, film and panel at OHSU

Following the film we will have a panel including OHSU HIV providers, Partnership Project medical case management staff and special guest, Daniel Goldstein, who appears in the film. On World AIDS Day we honor those who came before us, who fought through the early days of the epidemic. We especially honor those who lost their lives while advocating and waiting for the scientific advances and treatment we have today. We also honor those living with HIV and those who stand beside them. While we live in the time of great scientific advances and have the ability to end new HIV infections in our lifetime through access to HIV testing, medical care, support services, and possibly a vaccine, it is still critical to share these vital stories of where we have come from, what was lost and the incredible power of community. Please join us for all of the time or part of it, bring your lunch, your questions, an open mind and heart and a box of tissues won't hurt. , About “We Were Here” “We Were Here,” a film by David Weissman, documents the coming of what was called the “Gay Plague” in the early 1980s. It illuminates the profound personal and community issues raised by the AIDS epidemic as well as the broad political and social upheavals it unleashed. “We Were Here” evokes an epic history, through the intimate recollections of five longtime San Franciscans whose lives were transformed by the epidemic.
