This activity will focus on a practical evidence-based approach to one of the most challenging but important conversations that health care providers may need to have with their patients, the Disclosure of Unanticipated Medical Outcomes.

Learning objectives:

  1. To provide a brief overview of unanticipated outcomes and reasons for disclosure.
  2. To discuss a practical, evidence-based approach to the disclosure of unanticipated medical outcomes to patients and their families.

This activity will be presented by Elisabeth Guenther, MD, MPH, Professor of Pediatrics at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest in Lebanon Oregon. She serves as Director of Career Development and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for the College.
