Statement on Reproductive Health

Patients undergoing treatment for cancer who are pregnant can face extremely difficult decisions. Sometimes they have to prioritize caring for themselves over continuing the pregnancy, because medicines used in the treatment of cancers can be detrimental or could end the pregnancy. And sometimes a patient’s fertility could be impacted by cancer treatment.
At the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, we are committed to working with each patient, individually, to help them understand their options, make informed decisions and pursue whatever course of action might be required. We are fortunate that the state of Oregon supports pregnant people in their health care decisions as we strive to do what is in the best interest of the patients we serve.
A cancer diagnosis is difficult, and its impact on pregnancy, or the potential to become pregnant, can be even more complicated. At the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, we are dedicated to providing the very best health care to all, and will offer evidence-based advice about the reproductive impacts of cancer care to our patients.
