Currently, no clinics are running a Veggie Rx program. However, there are templates and a kit to set up a program anytime! If you work with a clinic at OHSU and are interested, please contact Eecole Copen.

The OHSU Food Rx program was developed by OHSU Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) to give clinicians an opportunity to offer patients a tangible solution to their food insecurity in the form of vouchers that can be redeemed for fruits and vegetables (fresh, frozen, dried or canned, without added sugar, salt or oil) at one of 32 participating farmers markets and grocery stores in Oregon. Currently, clinics pay for the vouchers and design their own parameters for their program. Most OHSU programs choose to offer each patient around $30 per month, usually for 2-3 months. There are many other programs around Oregon that have different models. 

These types of programs have been shown to help reduce weight, reduce abnormally high blood sugar levels (Hemoglobin A1C), reduce food insecurity, and increase quality of life. We hope that more clinics will choose to enroll patients in this program.
