Conference details

Talk title: "Promoting a safer work environment through professionalism and bystander action"

This is a quarterly case-based conference to incorporate quality improvement and patient safety into the continuing medical education program offered at Casey.

Conference format

At each conference, a case will be presented by the team involved in the case. The objective is to improve the system to prevent misses or near misses in the future. That team will then give a brief update at the next conference on any improvements or changes that were made.

Target audience

Casey Eye Institute PAS staff, technicians, residents, fellows, nurses, managers and clinical faculty are encouraged to attend. A light breakfast will be served.

Learning objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the prevalence and impact of sexual harassment in ophthalmology.
  2. Identify strategies to create a professional work environment.
  3. Identify bystander interventions and how to best respond to unprofessional behavior in the workplace.
