OHSU NAP students rotate to a variety of clinical sites throughout their tenure in the program. This ensures that all students are afforded maximal opportunities to participate in general surgical cases as well as specialty cases. Students rotate to a variety of clinical sites, which include:

Doernbecher Children's Hospital
Doernbecher, established in 1926, is a Level 1 trauma center with a 151-bed hospital that includes the largest pediatric intensive care unit in Oregon. Doernbecher offers primary care and specialty services in locations throughout the Portland metro area and in outreach clinics across the state of Oregon, serving more children in more places than any other hospital in Oregon or Southwest Washington. Doernbecher Children’s Hospital was named among the best children’s hospitals in the United States for the 13th year in a row by U.S. News & World Report. For 2022, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital received recognition in the following specialties: cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pediatric pulmonology and lung surgery, and pediatric urology.
Henderson Hospital
Henderson Hospital, part The Valley Health Systems, is located in Henderson, Nevada and serves the area southeast of Las Vegas. It is a 303-bed, Joint-Commission accredited center with 6 operating rooms, radiology and endoscopy suites. The facility offers obstetric care and students who rotate to the site gain both general OR and obstetric experiences. Anesthesia is provided in a care-team model with CRNAs and attending anesthesiologist.
Hillcrest Medical Center
Hillcrest Medical Center, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a 656-bed hospital offering a wide range of surgical services including specialties such as cardiothoracic surgery, burn care and high-risk obstetric care. The facility has 8 main operating rooms, 4 orthopedic operating rooms, 2 cardiac operating rooms, hybrid cardiac rooms, radiology and endoscopy suites. Students who rotate to the facility gain experience in a multitude of areas including the main OR, cardiothoracic and obstetrics. Anesthesia is provided in a care-team model with CRNAs and attending anesthesiologist.
Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center
KSMC is the primary regional referral hospital for patients enrolled in the Northwest Permanente Medical plans. KSMC is approximately a 250-bed hospital with an attached ambulatory surgery facility (Sunnybrook Ambulatory Surgery Center). Sunnybrook Surgery Center provides outpatient surgery services to adult and pediatric patients. Services provided by the Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center include 24-hour emergency care for children and adults, low-risk obstetrical/neonatal care, and medical/surgical hospital care for adults. Anesthesia services are delivered via the anesthesia care team model by CRNAs and anesthesiologists.
Kaiser Westside Medical Center
Kaiser Westside Medical Center is a 126-bed hospital located in Hillsboro, Oregon. The hospital opened in August 2013. Services provided by the Kaiser Westside Medical Center include 24-hour emergency care, low-risk obstetrical/neonatal care, inpatient and outpatient surgery, and medical/surgical hospital care for adults. Anesthesia services are delivered via the anesthesia care team model by CRNAs and anesthesiologists.
Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center
Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, located in Portland, Oregon, is a general medical and surgical center with 248 beds, 16 main operating rooms, 3 ambulatory operating rooms and multiple ancillary areas including endoscopy and radiology. Anesthesia is provided in a care-team model with CRNAs and attending anesthesiologist.
Legacy Silverton Hospital
Legacy Silverton Hospital is a 48-bed rural hospital located in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley and is located 44 miles southeast of Portland. Their service area includes the communities of Silverton, Mt. Angel, Molalla, Scotts Mills, Gervais, Hubbard and Woodburn. Many patients also come from the Salem area and beyond. Silverton Hospital offers a comprehensive mix of services, many of which are not typically available in a small rural hospital. Anesthesia services are provided exclusively by CRNAs and provide anesthesia care to general surgical, orthopedic, and obstetric patients.
Oregon Health & Science University Hospital
OHSU is home to Oregon's only academic health center (OHSU Hospital). OHSU Hospital is a tertiary care facility with 560 licensed beds. The OHSU Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine (APOM) has approximately 60 anesthesiologists, 27 residents and 20 certified nurse anesthetists. This care is provided in a number of different locations and also divided into many clinical subspecialty areas. OHSU utilizes 36 operating rooms (ORs), in four separate OR suites for care of adult inpatients, outpatients and obstetric patients.
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, a not-for-profit healthcare system, is a 450-bed community hospital located in Vancouver, Washington. The site has multiple anesthetizing locations including main ORs, ancillary areas (radiology, endoscopy) and labor & delivery suites/operating rooms. Students who rotate to this site focus on obstetric care, including high-risk obstetric care. PeaceHealth Southwest has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit and the Family Birth Center has over 2500 deliveries per year. Anesthesia is provided in a care-team model with CRNAs and attending anesthesiologists.
Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center
The Portland VA Medical Center (PVAMC) is a 303-bed consolidated facility and serves as the quaternary referral center for Oregon, Southern Washington, and parts of Idaho for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Anesthesiology Department at PVAMC is a dedicated service with clinical, research and educational components. The Department enjoys a long-standing, affiliation with the OHSU Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (APOM). The operating suite comprises 14 fully equipped ORs.
Prosser Memorial Hospital
Prosser Memorial Health is a Level 4 Trauma Center with 25 licensed CHA beds. For 70 years, Prosser has provided exceptional healthcare services and the latest in diagnostic and patient care technology to the residents of the Yakima Valley, in Prosser, WA. Prosser surgical services treat a range of cases, from same-day to inpatient. The surgical team and suites cover orthopedics, podiatry services, general & gynecological services, and ENT procedures.
Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital
Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital (PHRMH), located in Hood River, Oregon has recently expanded. This hospital is approximately 62 miles east of Portland. The 25-bed state-of-the-art rural community hospital provides general medical, surgical, orthopedic, pediatric, obstetric, outpatient diagnostic services, and emergency services to community members living in the Columbia River Gorge. The hospital has 4 state of the art ORs and all of the anesthesia services are provided exclusively by CRNAs.
Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital
Established in 1952, Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital is a rural, community-based 25-bed critical access hospital serving residents and visitors of Depoe Bay, Newport, Toledo, Waldport, and Yachats. Samaritan offers a complete line of general and specialty surgical services in Benton, Lincoln, and Linn counties.
Seattle Children's Hospital
Seattle Children's Hospital located in Seattle Washington, located 174 miles north of Portland, is ranked as one of the best children's hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report and Child magazines, Children's has 250 inpatient beds and serves as the pediatric referral center for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. Anesthesia services are delivered via the anesthesia care team model by CRNAs and anesthesiologists. All surgical subspecialties are represented, including solid organ transplantation.
St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center
St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, located in Boise, Idaho, is part of the growing 4-hospital St. Alphonsus Health System serving parts of Idaho, Oregon and Nevada. St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, a nearly 400-bed facility, is the only Trauma II designated hospital in the region. The site offers a range of surgical services including specialties such as trauma and cardiothoracic care. Students who rotate to the site gain experience in the main ORs and cardiothoracic ORs. Anesthesia is provided in a care-team model with CRNAs and attending anesthesiologists.
University of Washington Medical Center
UWMC is a 450-bed tertiary care facility ranked among the top dozen medical centers in the United States as rated by U.S. News & World Report 2007 "America's Best Hospitals." It is located on the campus of the University of Washington located in Seattle, Washington, 174 miles north of Portland. The UWMC operating rooms consist of 19 O.R. suites, three outpatient suites, five labor rooms and delivery rooms, and ancillary locations in urology, radiation oncology, radiology, and dental. Anesthesia services are delivered via the anesthesia care team model by CRNAs and MD anesthesiologists.
Willamette Valley Medical Center
Located in McMinnville, OR, Willamette Valley Medical Center (WVMC) is a for-profit Level 3 hospital with a 60-bed acute-care full-service facility. Established in 1904, the hospital is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and certified as an accredited Chest Pain Center by ACC Accreditation Services, the accrediting arm of the American College of Cardiology.
